Addiction Recovery for Men
Right here in the Highland Lakes we have a tremendous resource to aid men in recovery from addiction to alcohol and drugs. Our program for July 27 heard from His Joshua House, a transitional recovery residence for men, and from two of their recent "graduates" who had resided there. Read more to learn more about "HJH" and to hear inspirational and motivating testimonials from two men. Click here to view the program on YouTube at the Daybreak Rotary YouTube channel.

HJH recently had its annual wild game fundraiser which, according to Executive Director Robert Hall, was a tremendous success. The event culminated with special additional help by some community members paying off the balance of the indebtedness on their residential facility.

The highlight of the program was a testimonial from each of two recent residents who explained their path into addiction and how HJH helped to bring them back to a life as productive members of society. Recovery from addiction is a very personal path that may include many turns and bumps. For these men, His Joshua House was a key element in making their path successful.

For anyone currently suffering from addiction, these testimonials would be very motivating to the addict in showing that there can be a path to recovery.

State of the Highland Lakes Real Estate Market

Trey Berry, Pres. of the Highland Lakes Association of Realtors spoke to us about how the market is in our area, with some contrasts to Austin and surrounding areas.
View the program here on the Daybreak Rotary YouTube channel. The club first inducted a new member, Melissa Christian, and then the program starts at 3:10 if you want to jump ahead.
We have all heard a lot about the overheated real estate market in Texas. Austin, in particular, is known to be red-hot. Trey indicated that the market in marble Falls and the surrounding area has been quite active, with plenty of buyers but that it had not been as "crazy" as in Austin. He also indicated that things appeared to be cooling-off just a little bit in our area if you look at the data.

One of the questions that I found most interesting, to which there appears to be no clear answer, was about where are people going when they sell in this area and whether they are moving away or moving up. We have all probably thought about where we would go and what we could by if we sold our home at the current (to some) inflated prices. Trey's program was interesting and we thank him for being with us.

This year the Rotary Presidential Theme is “Making a Difference.”

As Rotarians, business leaders and citizens of our local community it is our responsibility to make a difference.  At Daybreak Rotary we do this with our Foster Care and Adoption Awareness Program, Mustang Relays, College and Vocational Scholarships, and sending high school students to Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA), along with many other Global Programs we support.

We want to make a difference in our community.  Making a difference is not just the responsibility of Rotary, it is everyone’s job and Rotary helps us do that.  Even though Rotary has over 1.2 million members, we still need you to help Make a Difference in our Community.
