Eagle Scout Project:  DONE!
Local Boy Scout completes his Eagle Scout Project, a major milestone toward becoming an Eagle Scout.
Marble Falls High School graduate Jack Leflet has completed the major steps toward becoming an Eagle Scout. If you don't know what that means, just note that many U.S. presidents, military generals, and members of Congress were Eagle Scouts enroute to distinguished careers. Several members of Daybreak Rotary were Eagles.

Jack's project was the renovation of the MFHS Band Boosters' storage building which entailed practically a rebuilding of it, adding a fenced area to protect equipment that needed to be moved out of the shed, adding gravel to deal with water issues, adding interior shelves, and painting. Young Mr. Leflet reports spending around 300 hours on the project and he had a number of community volunteers to assist -- whom he had to organize and manage as one of the requirements of an Eagle project.

A community project such as this is one of the last requirements -- following the earning of 21 or more merit badges -- in becoming an Eagle Scout.

Jack is the son of Tony and Yarda Leflet, and the eldest of their two sons. Jack is currently attending Tarleton State. His dad Tony is the Director of Bands for MFISD -- wonder how he came up with the idea for his project?

Well done, Jack. Even as you begin your year at Tarleton, enjoy your upcoming Court of Honor.

State of the Highland Lakes Real Estate Market

Trey Berry, Pres. of the Highland Lakes Association of Realtors spoke to us about how the market is in our area, with some contrasts to Austin and surrounding areas. View the program here on the Daybreak Rotary YouTube channel. The club first inducted a new member, Melissa Christian, and then the program starts at 3:10 if you want to jump ahead.
We have all heard a lot about the overheated real estate market in Texas. Austin, in particular, is known to be red-hot. Trey indicated that the market in marble Falls and the surrounding area has been quite active, with plenty of buyers but that it had not been as "crazy" as in Austin. He also indicated that things appeared to be cooling-off just a little bit in our area if you look at the data.

One of the questions that I found most interesting, to which there appears to be no clear answer, was about where are people going when they sell in this area and whether they are moving away or moving up. We have all probably thought about where we would go and what we could by if we sold our home at the current (to some) inflated prices. Trey's program was interesting and we thank him for being with us.

This year the Rotary Presidential Theme is “Making a Difference.”

As Rotarians, business leaders and citizens of our local community it is our responsibility to make a difference.  At Daybreak Rotary we do this with our Foster Care and Adoption Awareness Program, College and Vocational Scholarships, and sending high school students to Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA), along with many  Global Programs we support.
