Herb Darling, Environmental Services Coordinator for Burnet County, enlightened the Marble Falls Daybreak Rotary on the many important functions of his position and his office.

Herb’s responsibilities affect the health and safety of the citizens in Burnet County. Broadly speaking, Herb’s office ensures that Burnet County adheres to State and federal legislation. Specifically, Herb’s office works with local emergency response teams to prevent and, if necessary, contain fires, chemical explosions, and other natural disasters such as flooding. Recently, Burnet County became one of only two counties in the state of Texas to qualify for reduced rates for residential flood insurance. Thanks to the Burnet County Environmental Services office and their efforts to comply with flooding regulations, flood insurance rates for local residents decreased by approximately 5 percent this year.
