On August 31, 2021, Hatch Cummings Smith, Jr., Administrator of MidCoast Central Medical Center (“MidCoast Central”), provided us with a status update of what has transpired with the hospital since MidCoast Health System took over management of Llano Memorial Hospital on January 1, 2021, and changed the name of the hospital to MidCoast Central.
Hatch grew up in Llano, Texas and was instrumental in ensuring that rural Texans continued to have access to affordable and quality healthcare through his efforts to keep the Llano hospital from closing its doors.

After Baylor, Scott & White terminated the operation of Llano Memorial Hospital, Hatch took great efforts to obtain another operator, MidCoast Health System.
MidCoast Health System has had great support from not only Llano County, but also the surrounding areas. Since taking over management of the hospital, MidCoast Central has almost doubled in size and has profited every month. MidCoast Central has added additional services, as they now offer physical therapy services and perform lab services in-house. Additionally, MidCoast Central will add an operating room, MRI capabilities, and a sleep center later this year.
In addition to MidCoast Central, MidCoast Health System has also opened MidCoast WellCare walk-in clinics in Llano and San Saba and are in the process of opening a MidCoast WellCare walk-in clinic in Mason, Texas.
MidCoast Health system accepts most insurances.
