CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) Executive Director Kristen Harris celebrates one with with CASA of the Highland Lakes on April 1.
It has been a busy year for Kristen and CASA, and there is more to come. With 171 children within their service area (71 in Burnet County alone) CASA is busy here. The numbers are down a bit right now but history tells us that is temporary.
Kristen is shown here with Daybreak President during a prior presentation by Kristen.
Approximately 2/3rds of the cases have an advocate assigned so more volunteers are needed. That is always the case as volunteers move on to other things or become unable to volunteer any more. CASA of the Highland Lakes (CASA HL) usually has five volunteer education classes each year and has one starting on April 7. CASA HL also has many observances of Child Abuse & Neglect Awareness Month during April and a golf tournament fund-raiser on May 30.
