All about CASA's new director
Kristen Harris is the new Exec. Director of CASA of the Highland Lakes. She is shown here with Jeffrey Bartz who brought the program to Daybreak today.
Kristen gave us an overview of the operation of the local CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) unit and that of CASA generally. Begun in 1991 by a judge who felt he was not getting enough information about the children who had been removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect, CASA has grown to have 1,000 units nationwide and 71 in Texas.
CASA of the Highland Lakes serves the counties of Burnet, Blanco, Llano and San Saba of the 33rd/424th Judicial Districts and also Lampasas County. It has a staff of eight including Kristen, 11 Board members (one of which is Rotarian Jeffrey Bartz), and 70 volunteers.
One of the ongoing activities of CASA is volunteer recruitment and they are having an informational meeting in Johnson City at the Pecan Street Pub from 4-6pm on Thursday, June 5.
